Project: Copernicus

Copernicus is the European Union's Earth Observation Programme, looking at our planet and its environment for the ultimate benefit of all European citizens. It offers information services based on satellite Earth Observation and in situ (non-space) data.

My Role in the project:

I found myself to be involved in a number of challenging tasks and ideas day by day.

My main responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Linux system management and troubleshooting – Ubuntu/CentOS server administration.
- Reviewing system and application logs, and verify completion of scheduled jobs such as backups.
- Develop and maintain installation and configuration procedures,
install new/rebuild existing servers in accordance with project/operational requirements.
- Documentation in form of an internal wiki.
- User administration.
- Automation of services through Bash scripting.
- Virtualisation.
- Support.

Additionally, I'm involved in MySQL Database administration, servers storage, and networking.

DeviceHub  was a project-based collaboration was carried out simultaneously with the easypost activity(main) 
Most of the job was done remotely!.

My contribution to the project:

build Raspberry pi images: this is a built in-house project containing a series of shell scripts that will build from scratch a custom RPI image and archive it.
implementing server infrastructure to orchestrate and configuration software application.
build custom Debian packages.
SaltStack recipes used to automate server minions.
Centralized logging using Logstash and Filebeat. 
Structured logging using Logstash and  Elasticsearch.
Experimenting the monitoring, configuring and deploying servers with Sensu and Uchiwa. Graphite and Grafana/Influxdb.
Lxd/Lxc, Nginx, docker.
Design and execute product testing in order to identify products’ flaws to be fixed by the dev team before they go to the clients.
 Writing Wiki documentation.

EasyPost was my first project as DevOps having no previous DevOps || SysAdmin experience.
